Suspect still at large after midday stabbing in downtown Victoria

Man taken to hospital, police still looking to identify and locate suspect.

Police are currently working to identify and locate a suspect in a stabbing that occurred on Douglas Street in downtown Victoria right in the midst of a busy lunch hour.

At about 12:30 on Tuesday (March 19) police received a report that a man had been stabbed on the 1200 block of Douglas, just out front of the Shoppers Drug Mart. At 12:33, seven police cars could be seen screaming down the middle of the busy thoroughfare en route to the scene.

The incident had resulted in police closing down one lane of Douglas, temporarily snarling traffic in the southbound lanes as they cordoned off the block.

A Victoria Police Department spokesperson told Black Press Media that multiple officers had attended the scene, and that the victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Police said they did not have any more details at this time.
