The Mustard Seed Street Church and Food Bank has revamped its space after a fire in late March, which left a heavily damaged hospitality centre.
The hospitality space is now almost double in size, which will let the Mustard Seed accommodate more individuals.
“We can now have much larger community meals,” Mustard Seed director of operations Treska Watson said at an open house at the facility Tuesday. “We can serve more lunches to more people, which we do six days a week. We can also now have food bank clients waiting inside instead of out in the elements. Almost everything in the space is brand new.”
The Mustard Seed supports over 45,000 individuals per month.
The renovations were made possible thanks to support from a large number of individuals and businesses.
“We’ve seen incredible community support since the fire,” Watson said. “The list of those who helped us is just so long. People in this city just really rallied.”
The Mustard Seed also plans to start fundraising soon to add showers, washers and driers to the facility.
