Safety measures have been taken or are in progress as the Keating flyover overpass construction continues.

The northbound turn lane onto Keating Cross Road is being replaced with a flyover overpass from Highway 17. Other work will include installing a new sidewalk on Keating Cross Road, widening Keating Cross Road and the highway, realigning the southbound on-ramp, and closing the Highway 17 access at East Saanich and Martindale roads.

A temporary activated crosswalk will be installed on Tanner Road this summer.

“Share the road” signs are being placed on Central Saanich Road and Tanner Road and truck route signage is being revised.

Traffic enforcement is increasing, speed control is being enforced, and traffic and speed counters are being placed in areas of concern.

Traffic safety engineers are helping decide if the speed limit on Central Saanich Road and Tanner Road will be reduced.

Construction of the overpass is expected to be completed in spring 2025.

Funding for the project was announced in August 2019, and it is budgeted to cost $76.8 million with $57.6 million coming from the province, $16.7 million from the federal government and $2.5 million from the District of Central Saanich.
