Crash on Vanalman in Saanich sends man to hospital

The Saanich police traffic safety unit is investigating if the man was driving under the influence.

Saanich police are investigating why a driver crashed into a hydro pole on Vanalman Avenue last night.

Police say the lone driver, a 32-year-old Victoria man, collided into a pole at a high rate of speed at about 9:30 p.m. on Monday between Glandford Avenue and the Pat Bay Highway. Witnesses to the incident smashed one of the car windows in an attempt to rescue the driver, who was initially unconscious.

He was transported to Victoria General Hospital with undetermined injuries. The Saanich police traffic safety unit is investigating if the man was driving under the influence. The vehicle had an breath interlock system.
