One suspect has been arrested after a serious assault on the 3300 block of Third Street in Cumberland on July 5.

At approximately noon, Comox Valley RCMP were called to the area after a report of an assault with a weapon. The victim sustained serious, potentially life-threatening injuries and was immediately taken to hospital for medical attention.

Frontline officers, accompanied by the Comox Valley RCMP Major Crime Unit, Street Crimes Unit, an Emergency Response Team member, and Municipal Traffic unit members all assisted with the incident.

One suspect was swiftly identified; however, upon locating the individual, he fled on an ATV into a rural wooded area. Through an extensive search of the area, aided by Police Dog Services (Norco) and Air Services, the suspect was successfully apprehended.

“Although the investigation is still ongoing, the evidence gathered thus far indicates that this was a targeted attack and there does not appear to be a risk to the general public,” said Const. Monika Terragni, Comox Valley RCMP media relations officer.

The victim is still in hospital, in stable condition.

The suspect has been charged with multiple offences and remains in custody.

The Record has requested information from the RCMP regarding the name of the suspect, as well as the charges laid.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Comox Valley RCMP at 250-338-1321.
