As of Monday (April 4), a total of eight candidates were officially registered for the federal election on the South Island.
Green party candidate Jared Giesbrecht (Victoria) was the first candidate in the three electoral districts encompassing the Capital Region (Saanich-Gulf Islands, Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca) to file nomination papers and have them validated.
Candidates have until 2 p.m. on April 11 to file their nomination papers with their respective district’s returning officer. They must also collect 100 signatures of support from residents in their electoral district.
