Parks staff share plans for splash pad, other upgrades in Saanich park

The public will get a peek at the planned upgrades to Rutledge Park in Saanich.

The park at the end of Rutledge Street, bound by Cloverdale Avenue, Inverness Road, Glasgow Avenue and Scotia Street is set to get a new splash park, washroom building and playground.

Saanich’s parks department and the design team from VDZ+A Consulting share the plan for the upgrades with an open house in the park May 31 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Those unable to attend can find the plan online at saanich.ca as of May 31 and share feedback by emailing parks@saanich.ca.

Saanich plans to replace existing playground equipment with a modern design incorporating nature play and natural elements. A new seasonal splash pad will have inclusive elements for children and youth of all abilities and the washroom/changeroom building will include private universal and accessible spaces and be open year-round.

Other upgrades include new paved pathways, park furniture such as benches, chairs and picnic tables, as well as a drinking fountain and water bottle filling station.

Funding for the project includes $329,508 of municipal cash, $535,342 from the province and $370,650 from the federal government.
