Victoria police arrested a wanted man just hours after notifying the public Monday morning.

Michael Friesen was wanted on an unendorsed warrant. Police believed Friesen, whose warrant was related to offences such as fraudulent use of identification, unauthorized use of a credit card, and possession of stolen property for the purpose of trafficking was actively evading police detection.

Shortly after the public notification, officers received a tip and officers located Friesen in a suite in a multi-unit residential building in the 1300-block of Harrison Street.

Police say Friesen refused to surrender and barricaded himself inside of the residence. Members of the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team attended the scene and officers continued to negotiate with Friesen to surrender.

After several hours, Friesen surrendered shortly before noon. There were no injuries reported.

Friesen was taken to cells to await court.
