Victoria man catches trouble after traffic stop

Patrol officer recognizes man who is very well known to police

A routine traffic stop ended in a bevy of charges and an impounded vehicle for a 40-year-old Victoria man with a long criminal past.

Victoria patrol officers spied a van roll past a stop sign on Government Street without stopping, and make a turn without signalling at 1:25 a.m. last Sunday.

Police say the suspect wasn't licensed to drive, the vehicle wasn't his and he was violating an evening curfew. A search of the van allegedly revealed a treasure trove of stolen electronics, and a search of his person netted a small amount of heroin, police say.

The suspect was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act for not being licensed. He faces additional charges for breaking curfew, and is expected to appear in court next month.
