Victoria police recovered an iPad after the victim was contacted by a man offering to sell the stolen item back.

The victim of a break-and-enter is having the last laugh after someone tried to sell his stolen iPad back to him.

A 29-year-old Victoria man contacted the Victoria Police Department to report a break-and-enter on Jan. 23. The man told police his iPad had been stolen, and the thief had offered to return the item in exchange for cash.

"Working closely with the victim, officers set up a quick undercover operation to purchase the iPad from the suspect," said VicPD Const. Mike Russell.

The sting operation was set up in a parking lot in the 2300-block of Douglas St. last Friday, where the victim met two men and completed the transaction before police moved in.

A 42-year-old Victoria man is facing a charge of possession of stolen property under $5,000. Police haven't yet been able to connect either man to the break-and-enter, but the investigation continues, Russell said.
