A suspect was arrested after a reported sexual assault on the Galloping Goose Regional Trail Monday.
The Victoria Police Department tweeted around 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 that officers, including members of the VicPD K9 unit, responded to a sexual assault on the trail near Harbour and Tyee roads.
According to a VicPD press release, at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers responded to a report a man had attacked and sexually assaulted a woman on the Galloping Goose. The woman reported she fought the man off and called 911.
She provided a description of the suspect and officers flooded the area in response.
Police contained the area while they investigated.
Officers spotted the suspect and a foot chase ensued. The suspect briefly eluded officers and a perimeter was set up for a search by VicPD K9. A man was located and taken into custody. During the arrest, the suspect received non-life-threatening injuries from the police dog. The suspect declined medical aid and was transported to cells.
The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the attack. The suspect remains in custody.
