Victoria police searching for driver whose vehicle struck elderly woman

70-year-old man spoke with paramedics on the scene, but left before officers arrived

Victoria police are appealing to the public in an attempt to find witnesses who may have seen a vehicle strike an elderly pedestrian the evening of Oct. 25.

Shortly after 9:35 p.m., officers were called to the intersection of Fort Street and Foul Bay Road after reports came in that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. By the time police arrived, they were met by witnesses who said the victim had already been taken to hospital by ambulance.

The driver of the vehicle had initially stopped, and spoken with paramedics, concerned for the woman involved. He then departed the scene after the ambulance left, before officers arrived.

The driver – who officers are looking to speak with – is described as a Caucasian man, approximately 70 years old, balding with white hair, wearing glasses and a blue jacket. The man’s vehicle is described as a beige sedan.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the non-emergency line at 250-995-7654, or to report anonymously, call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
