It was a strong debut for the Victoria HarbourCats as the West Coast League brought wood bat baseball to the Island in 2013.
After a hiatus from a marquee baseball tenant at Royal Athletic Park since the Victoria Seals of the minor pro Golden Baseball League folded in 2010, the HarbourCats surpassed expectations. The team's averaged an announced total of 1,437 fans per game for a total of 38,793 in 27 games is second in the WCL for 2013 behind only the Bend Elks (Oregon) average of 1,574.
The HarbourCats started strong and was first in the North division at the All-Star break, which was hosted in Victoria. But the season turned into a losing affair as the HarbourCats ended with 22 wins and 32 losses, the third worst record in the WCL.
No matter, the fans proved the experience was more important than the wins and only time will tell if the HarbourCats can sustain it's numbers.
