The start of the high school boys rugby season wouldn't be the same without the Gareth Rees Boot game between Oak Bay High and St. Michaels University School.

The two traditional rugby powers in Greater Victoria meet in the annual grudge match today (March 9) at the University of Victoria's Wallace Field, starting at 6 p.m.

The Barbarians opened their exhibition season Monday against Cowichan, and kick off the Greater Victoria regular season March 29 at home against Claremont.

SMUS won last year's Boot game 23-20, but Oak Bay won the Howard Russell Cup for the city's AAA championship 25-12 over SMUS.
