Nail-biting penalty shootout secures Reynolds’ spot at provincials

Saanich’s Reynolds Secondary School won the senior girls’ soccer AAA Island championship in dramatic fashion against Stelly’s Secondary School on Tuesday (May 16) at Goudy Field in Langford.

After Reynolds player Abby McDonald stole in behind the defence to equalize the game at 2-2 late on, Reynolds won the penalty shoot-out thanks to the heroics of goalkeeper Lincoln Miracle, who saved two spot kicks.

Reynolds and Stelly’s made it to the final after making it through group play on May 15 and 16.

Now Reynolds will turn its attention to provincials on June 1 to 3 in Kelowna.

Stelly’s may still join them there. The team will have to beat third-place finisher Oak Bay in a challenge match next week for the second berth.
