The power of women shines through in Goddess Run events

More than 1,750 women take to the streets around Langford

Pink, green and purple waves were in evidence around Langford on Sunday as participants in the third annual Goddess Run took to the streets.

The 1,760 women competing in the run/walk event had near-perfect conditions for the five-kilometre, 10K and half marathon distances.

Lara Greaves of Victoria won the half marathon crown in a field of 230 with a time of one hour, 35 minutes and seven seconds. She crossed the line comfortably ahead of second-place finisher Yana Hempler of Saanich, who timed 1:35.41.

Duncan’s Raisa David was another full minute back in third, while Cara Williams of Victoria was fourth in 1:38.20.

In the 10K event, by far the busiest with 985 participants, Victoria’s Rachel Speller crossed first in 41:20, just ahead of Nancy Baxendale of Shawnigan Lake in 41:32. Cathy McCartney of Victoria finished third in 43:21, followed by Angela Collins of New Westminster in 43:36 and Victoria’s Jessica Loughead in 44:48.
