The Victoria Royals have signed 15-year-old goaltender Jayden Kraus to a WHL Standard Play Agreement.
Kraus, a 6’0”, 170-pound netminder selected in the third round (46th overall) of the 2021 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft, is currently playing for the Prince Albert Mintos of the Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League. In the first half of the season, he played 16 games, posting an 8-5-0-1 record, a 2.64 goals against average and a .915 save percentage.
“We feel Jayden is one of the top goaltenders in the draft,” said Ed Fowler, director of player personnel for the Royals. “He has the size, athleticism, quickness and flexibility to be a very good WHL goalie.”
Fowler said Kraus’ grit and determination stand out most to the organization and his high level of maturity will be valued in Victoria.
Hailing from Prince Albert, Kraus played for the U15 Prince Albert Pirates of the Saskatchewan AA Hockey League prior to joining the Mintos. During the 2019-20 season, he played in 16 games, recording a 3.19 goals against average and a .907 save percentage. The goaltender’s 2020-21 season was cut short after one game due to the pandemic.
