PHOTOS: Herring run creates annual frenzy in Parksville Qualicum Beach

Wildlife add to the fun for observers as annual fishery arrives

The annual herring run remains a big attraction in Parksville Qualicum Beach.

Blessed with sunny weather, residents lined the shore this week, eager to watch the activity on the waterfront, with many taking photos of the myriad of commercial fishing boats that came out, dropping their nets into the water and hauling in huge catches.

There were also recreational fishers, who came out on their boats and were thrilled to cast their nets and end up with a fair amount of herring.

The wildlife was also out, with the squawking eagles and seagulls, barking sea lions and also some occasional ducks going on a feeding frenzy, adding more excitement.
