The proposed twinning of the Kinder Morgan pipeline from Alberta through British Columbia is one of the most contentious issues the Liberal government of Justin Trudeau has yet faced.
The prime minister was in Victoria this week for an announcement about marine spill prevention and told a media briefing that the pipeline project will go ahead, despite caution being exercised by the B.C. government.

Meanwhile, a large crowd of protesters gathered outside the Coast Guard base in James Bay.
