Local food expo taking root

The expo will showcase local food and the farmers, ranchers and fishers

The first-ever local food and sustainable agriculture expo hits Victoria next month.

The expo will showcase local food and the farmers, ranchers and fishers that produce it, along with local artisans, craft brewers, vintners, chefs and industry leaders.

“What were hoping to get out of the expo is to show the public the varied businesses that make up our local food scene and how interconnected it is,” said Jennifer Freeman, regional event coordinator for Vancouver Island.

The event gives residents the opportunity to check out what’s local as well as give businesses the chance to network with other industry members.

“You can come and check out food and sample beer or wine. There will be 50 to 75 unique exhibitors,” said Freeman.

The expo takes place April 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Victoria Conference Centre located at 720 Douglas St. Tickets are free for children under 12 and $5 for adults.
