Ready, set, pedal! The fall Bike to Work Week is off to the races in Victoria.

On Oct. 22, commuters will hop on their bikes for the first week-long fall ride. Previously, the fall Bike to Work ride has been for three days. This year, it’s been extended to encourage people to make cycling a habit rather than an exception.

Earlier this year, more than 7,200 cyclists took to the streets of Greater Victoria in a dash to work, with more than 1,300 newbies.

Commuters can enjoy free refreshments, bike check-ups and prize giveaways along popular routes. A Victoria woman won a cycling trip to Portugal for clocking in her rides this past spring’s competition — now a trip to Sicily is up for grabs.
