Children's choir kicks off holiday cheer

One of Victoria's most unique Christmas performances comes to Christ Church Cathedral on Monday

One of Victoria's most unique Christmas performances comes to Christ Church Cathedral on Monday (Dec. 2).

The ninth annual Classical Christmas Concert features 60 children and teens from the Victoria Children's Choir as well as the St. Christopher Singers performing classical music in a classic setting.

Artistic director Madeleine Humer is showcasing a mix of Gregorian chant, Renaissance masterpieces, modern seasonal songs and a few well-loved carols to encourage the Christmas spirit.

"Everyone will feel they've started their holidays with a greater appreciation for the music of the season," Humer said. "A richer experience can come from the timelessness of the songs, beautiful sounds and harmonies, or simply from sharing a carol sing-a-long with a cathedral full of hundreds of people."

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the performance begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20, $15 for seniors and students and free for kids 8 and younger.

Find tickets at Long & McQuade, Ivy's Book Store, Larsen Music, Christ Church Cathedral or online at victoriachildrenschoir.ca.
