ESPN anchor Keith Olbermann continues to have his fun with the Vancouver Canucks, naming a second one to his 'World's Worst' in the sports world segment this year.
In January, Olbermann reserved the title for Canucks enforcer/forward Tom Sestito (who he called "a boxer on skates") and on April 9, Olbermann fixed his spectacled brows on Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini.
Olbermann slammed Aquilini for his (reported) defamation charges filed against two reporters, who have claimed (along with several other reporters, both inside Vancouver and out) that Aquilini was heavily involved with former GM Mike Gillis's hiring of head coach John Tortorella.
"No, I'm not making this up," Olbermann told his camera and viewers, reciting the situation. "Yes, you are awake."
Aquilini also reportedly sent a text message to one reporter, calling him a "it rhymes with brick," said Olbermann.
"This happened because the Aquilini family fired their GM this week and coach John Tortorella is still there," Olbermann continued. "No, you're still awake.
"You own the team. Owning the team means, you own the decision. You hired him because the general manager says, 'This is my choice' is the same as if you personally went down to skid row, found Tortorella, touched him on the shoulders and said, 'This is my choice.'"
Olbermann then focused his rant on one of the still-unresolved parts of this saga – the ongoing employment of Tortorella as Vancouver's head coach.
"Also, if it's defamatory to say somebody in charge of the Canucks was involved in hiring the coach of the Canucks, why is the guy still the coach of the Canucks?"
Olbermann's label on Aquilini is unlikely to garner him any legal attention from the Canucks' owner, which makes this less of a Murrow vs McCarthy thing and more of a Bill Maher vs Donald Trump thing:
