Victoria’s burger scene downtown is getting so crowded you can’t swing a French fry without hitting a beef patty covered in melted cheese.

And we’re all here for it.

The latest is Boardwalk Fries Burgers Shakes, which has taken over the space at the Bay Centre that was occupied by Johnny Rockets on the Fort Street side.

Inspired by the legendary fries on the Ocean City Boardwalk and founded in 1981 by brothers Dave and Fran DiFerdinando, Boardwalk Fries Burgers Shakes does big burgers, as well as fries that are smothered in everything from cheese to jalapenos to garlic to chili.

Boardwalk also does thick shakes in such flavours as banana and peanut butter.

Boardwalk is a global chain, with locations in the U.S. as well as Pakistan and Qatar.

“Soon after we created the world’s best fries, customers started asking for new menu items so we added an enhanced selection with only the best ingredients – fresh, never frozen hand-made burgers, creamy Canadian dairy shakes, sweet potato fries, poutine, veggie burgers, chicken options and so much more,” reads a post on the Boardwalk website.

Boardwalk joins a long list of burger places. Aside from McDonald’s and Burger King, here are some of the gourmet burger places:

Bin 4 Burger Lounge

Burger Crush

Big Wheel Burger

Fatburger

Betty Burger

Frankie’s Modern Diner

Beacon Drive In

Red Robin

Heron Rock Bistro

John’s Place

Yukatsu & Uburger

Then throw in all of the pubs and bars downtown that do gourmet burgers and you have a lot of choices to get your burger on.
