Still time to answer community plan survey

Deadline may be extended

The District of Oak Bay is preparing to send out reminder letters to those who have not completed the Official Community Plan survey.

As of Monday morning, 682 surveys had been received out of 8,039 that were mailed out in late September. Acting Chief Administrative Officer Gary Nason acknowledged the envelopes the surveys were mailed in could be mistaken for junk mail, so the district is looking at rectifying the problem for the reminder letters. He also indicated the deadline may be extended.

“The Oct. 30 deadline is not hard-and-fast,” Nason said at Monday’s council meeting. “But it reaches a point in time where we have to get on with the analysis of the data.”

Originally 2,000 reminder letters were going to be sent by the survey company, Points of View Research. The district is now looking at raising that to 6,000, but that number will depend on the response rate over the next couple of weeks. Nason said increasing the amount of reminder letters will cost the district more money, primarily due to postage costs.

Those who haven’t received a survey can still request one by calling 1-866-299-0464.
