A University of Victoria student suffered injuries after she was pelted with a pumpkin thrown from a moving vehicle last week.
The 19-year-old was jogging around Ring Road at 9:30 p.m. when a group of young people in a pickup truck drove past and one occupant threw a large pumpkin at her, striking her in the upper body.
The force of the gourd hitting her made her lose her balance and fall to the ground, scraping her knees and elbows.
“This is unacceptable behaviour,” said Saanich police Sgt. Dean Jantzen. “A pumpkin that weighs a few pounds, if that vehicle is travelling at 30 km/h, all of a sudden becomes a missile travelling at 30 km right toward her.”
Police are investigating the incident as mischief that caused injury, which is assault-like behaviour, Jantzen said.
Investigators are looking to identify the individuals in the pickup truck, and are asking anyone with information on this incident to call Saanich police at 250-475-4321.
