The owner of the Golden Goal grabbed the 'C' on Sunday, as Sidney Crosby was named the captain for Team Canada at the upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
Crosby will be joined at the head of the table by Jonathan Toews and Shea Weber, who were named assistants.
"Sidney, Jonathan and Shea have been leaders on the international stage in the past as well as with their NHL teams," said Canadian head coach Mike Babcock, post-announcement (Yahoo! Sports).
"These three players will be at the forefront of our efforts in Sochi but we are confident we have 25 players on our roster that will lead in their own way and allow our team to be successful."
Crosby, of course, had the winning goal for Canada in overtime at Vancouver's 2010 Winter Olympic, coming off a pass from then-assistant Jarome Iginla. The low shot was put between the legs of American goalie Ryan Miller, who finished with 36 saves on 39 shots in a 3-2 loss.
Canadian goalie Roberto Luongo stopped 34 of 36 shots in the win (IIHF Stats).
"Playing for Team Canada, playing in the Olympics is a great opportunity," Crosby said on Sunday (TSN). "But being able to be named the captain is definitely an honour."
Toews and Weber were the only Canadian named to the 2010 all-Olympic men's hockey team, along with Americans Miller, Brian Rafalski, and Zach Parise. Slovakia's Pavol Demitra was also named to the tournament's all-star team.
