It is one of the tastier slice-of-life-during-a-winter-weather-emergency stories.
A Saanichton pizzeria continues to offer free slices to all on-duty first responders, bus drivers, tow truck drivers, and road crews from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Peninsula Pizza first offered the deal Monday, extending it into Tuesday and to road crews.
Co-owner Tina Clark said the offer is their way of thanking for crews for their work as the region deals with heavy snows.
“It’s nice to pay it forward, and thank them for their service,” she said.
Clark’s family has owned and operated Peninsula Pizza for almost 20 years.
“We treat our customers like part of our family and we are passionate about giving back to our community,” she said. “A sincere thank-you to those who are out working in this weather to keep our community safe.”
For Clark, the offer also has a personal dimension. She has a background in law enforcement, as she is currently on leave from the Canada Border Services Agency.
About half a dozen parties took up the offer Monday, said Clark. The business also granted Central Saanich fire crews a deep discount on a large order Monday.
“The issue is they are also so very busy,” she said.
